About the Artist

O'Neill Cushman is an American artist living and working in Aix-en-Provence, France.  His work is centered around the idea that a work of art is structurally parallel to nature, and that the most direct form of self expression is through a phenomenological investigation of these natural structures.  His methodical and continual search for poetic truth and perceptive meaning, both in nature and in his work, guides his rapid, intuitive style, which he calls Phenomenological Expressionism.  For more information on how to look at his work, please click here.

O'Neill holds a Masters of Fine Art from Plymouth University's Transart Institute, and teaches drawing, painting, ceramics, art history and art criticism at the Institute for American Universities in Aix-en-Provence. He spent years studying with the Marchutz School in Aix as well.
